Art

The Greater Denton Arts Council supports the arts in Denton in several ways. First, we provide a place for art and performance to happen. The Council operates the Center for the Visual Arts which houses two public art galleries, arts and crafts rooms, a dance studio, and a large multi-purpose hall. In 1995 GDAC completed a renovation of the Campus Theatre which is now home for Denton's performing arts organizations. Second, GDAC provides financial support for new and established cultural programs. The Council has distributed more than half a million dollars over the past decade. Educational and cultural programs are offered at the Center for the Visual Arts. Exhibitions, classes, performances, and other events attract about 40,000 persons to the Center annually.

Art, University

A university gallery, we are striving to develop a rich, truly professional contemporary program for the School of Visual Arts, the university community, and the North Texas area. Recent curatorial projects include:"Whispers from the Walls" an original installation by Whitfield Lovell; Fifteen: Jim Isermann Survey;"Boat Emptying, Stream Entering with Marina Abramovic; Charles T. Williams and his Circle; Nancy Graves: Camel Investigations; Commitment to Image; Recent Figurative Painting with David McGee, Sam Reveles, Shahzia Sikander, Amy Sillman, Christian Schumann, Hanneline Rogeberg. Although we operate with only 1 1/2 full time staff, we work with students and faculty to provide consistantly innovative and interesting exhibitions.

MUSEUM CONFERENCES

March 10 - March 13, 2026

California Association of Museums 2026 Annual Conference

Omni Hotel

Los Angeles, California

CAM is hard at work planning for the 2026 conference, set to take place from March 10–13, 2026 in Los Angeles. We look forward to highlighting best practices and innovative ideas from California's museum community at CAM 2026: Reframing

Reframing encapsulates the tangible nature of museum work–what we restore, revive, and rebuild–and the intangible nature of museum work–where we reflect, interpret, educate, and shift perspectives. On a larger scale, Reframing gives us the power to redefine who we are, why we’re important, and how we connect with and show up for our community. Reframing is resistance and resilience.

We look forward to reuniting with the California museum community in Los Angeles, March 10–13, 2026 at the Omni Hotel. Stay tuned for more annual conference developments.
