The Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park is a 15 acre waterfront, Historical Site where St. Augustine, Florida began in 1565. Here, on September 8, 1565, Spanish Explorer Pedro Menendez de Aviles established the oldest continuous European Settlement in the U.S., and held the first recorded Thanksgiving Feast between Europeans and Native Americans - 55 years before the Pilgrims. The site is 42 years older than Jamestown, and is open 364 days a year.

Discover The Nation's Oldest Port at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum, a Smithsonian Affiliate. In the 16th century the Spanish erected a "centinella" or watchtower on Anatasia Island to protect the city as the Castillo De San Marcos was built. Today, the St. Augustine Lighthouse continues to shine its beam over sand and sea. Museum researchers in the Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program (LAMP) perform marine archaeology under the waves, volunteer boat-builders construct replicas of historic watercraft, and educators offer maritime programs for young people. Tourists are invited to climb to the top of our 165-foot working lighthouse for breathtaking views of the city, beaches, and nation’s oldest port.

Hear stories of its Spanish and British occupants as well as a succession of local families who lived in the house until 1837 when Dr. Seth Peck bought the property. Admire the 18th - 19th century Peck family furniture. Reflect on the works of 19th century Florida artists Martin Johnson Heade, W. Staples Drown, Felix De Crano and others. Listen to the story of Polly, Miss Anna's treasured parrot. Observe at close range two original Audubon colored engravings. One is by J.J. Audubon and the other by his son, J.W. Audubon. The Shrine is built on the site of the Avero House which was a 1972 University of Florida excavation site. It is dedicated to the first colony of Greek people who came to America in 1768 and consists of exhibits depicting the life of early Greeks in America and the development of the Greek Orthodox Church and St. Photios Chapel.

Join us in Milledgeville, Georgia, for the annual Georgia Association of Museums conference as we explore the profound wisdom of Milledgeville author Flannery O'Connor’s words. In a world where narratives intersect and perspectives diverge, this theme invites proposals that delve into the essence of storytelling within museums and cultural institutions. Our work in the museum field requires us to look at stories from as many angles and perspectives as possible so that we might do our best to tell the “whole story.

Through thought-provoking discussions, interactive workshops, and engaging presentations, we will uncover the layers of meaning embedded within every artifact, exhibition, and historical account. Just as O’Connor masterfully crafted narratives that resonate with universal truths, museums hold the power to illuminate the whole story behind many objects, artworks, and cultural phenomena

We will examine how museums can embrace inclusivity, diversity, and authenticity in their storytelling practices. By acknowledging multiple perspectives and amplifying marginalized voices, we can enrich our understanding of the past and present, fostering empathy and connection within our communities.
