General

Located in a Nationally Registered historic landmark, the museum is the site of the first African American high school in Southwestern Virginia. Exhibits and celebrates African American culture and heritage in Southwest Virginia. Meeting facilities available, gift shop on site.

History

Museum exhibits and research library comprise the largest collection of material in the Roanoke Valley devoted solely to tracing human history. Exhibits offer a glimpse of how life was lived in southwestern Virginia, creating a vivid cultural and educational experience. Rotating exhibits allows the Museum to focus on a variety of people, industries and events that have influenced the development of the region.

Historical Society

The museum has four galleries housing permanent and rotating exhibits that focus on regional history, two classrooms for school-based educational outreach programs and a research library.

Art, University

Hollins has majors and minors in art history, studio art, and film and photography. The art history major studies works of art in their social, political, intellectual, and cultural contexts. Students learn to think, read, and write critically about art and to be astute interpreters of visual culture.The gallery offers seven exhibitions per year featuring the work of regionally and nationally renowned artists.
