Founded in 1936, the Antiquarian & Landmarks Society (A & L), Connecticut's statewide heritage organization, promotes interest in historic properties by preserving and interpreting significant personal stories and collections. The Antiquarian & Landmarks Society owns nine historic houses opened to public. All are on their original sites and most have intact original collections.

Middlesex County Historical Society
Middletown, Connecticut

The Historical Society is headquartered at General Mansfield House, one of the few residential structures still standing on Middletown’s Main Street . Once the home of General Joseph K.F. Mansfield, a Civil War hero who died at the battle of Antietam in 1862, the Federal brick mansion has been the home of the Historical Society since 1959.

New London Maritime Society and Custom House Maritime Museum
New London, Connecticut

The Custom House Maritime Museum occupies a Greek Revival building that has served as New London's custom house since it was opened in 1835. Exhibits and programs illustrate aspects of New London's multi-faceted maritime history, among them the Amistad Affair (the slave ship captured in 1839 and first brought to New London); area lighthouses; the whaling industry; the War of 1812; yachting; naval submarine history; and customs collection.

Solomon Rockwell House

Museum of Fife & Drum

The Museum of Fife and Drum is home to one the most unique collections of fife and drum artifacts in the world; it is a visual and musical history of America on parade, from the Revolutionary War to the present. Theme displays feature drums, fifes, military swords, music, uniforms, medals, awards and photographs.

Old New Gate Prison & Copper Mine
East Granby, Connecticut

The underground tunnels of an abandoned copper mine began to be used as a prison in Dec 1773. Over 800 inmates were confined here until the facility was closed in 1827.
