MKT Depot Museum

Katy, Texas

General, History

The MKT Depot was built in 1898 and enlarged in 1919. The Katy Heritage Society was formed in 1979 to save the depot from being destroyed; and had continued it's mission to preserve local history since that time. The Depot has been restored as a working MKT Depot. Colors were carefully researched and the building looks much like it did while in the early years of service. The Museum includes exhibits of local and MKT history and a freight room furnished as if busy around the turn of the century. The City of Katy operates a visitors center out of the depot, information about the Katy area and the Katy Heritage Society is avialable.

Wright Museum

Katy, Texas

History, Historic House

Katy Heritage Park was created in 2003 with a partnership between the KHS and the City of Katy. The Katy Heritage Society still owns and operates and is financially responsible for the properties. It's a great community venue, large lawn area for picnics and games, big pavilion for gathering, 5 buildings all connected by curving pavestone walkways lined with old fashioned street lights. We had over 1000 people come out for the lighting of our Christmas tree and it's our hope it will continue to be a destination for community events. We have one house that is used for public meetings and can be rented for private parties.
