TEACHERS LOUNGE EMAIL CLUB: Join our Email club and stay “in the know” with information like exhibition dates, trip planners, and professional development opportunities. Email addresses are for Museum Education Office use only and will not be sold or given to a third party.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: If you love a quality museum experience, then you understand the importance of dedicated volunteers. Call the museum at 291-5544 to volunteer!

The Lafayette Science Museum is a regional science center serving families, schools, and visitors with experiences and education in order to build the future through science, technology, engineering, and math.

Planetarium shows run on a schedule, and late admission is not possible. Monday through Friday mornings: Groups may schedule a Planetarium show. Seats are $2.00 per person. Infants through 3 years of age are not permitted in some Planetarium shows. Afternoons, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays: Groups may purchase Planetarium show tickets at $2.00 per person, subject to availability.

History

Formerly the Lafayette Natural History Museum, the organization moved to downtown Lafayette in 2002, and took the name Lafayette Science Museum.

Artifact Collections

The Museum owns a small collection of artifacts and specimens. The larget segment is composed of material culture objects from regional Native American, Creole, and Cajun cultures. This is complemented by a small specimen collection containing plant and animal samples.

Research Collections

A small astonomy collection of meteorites, tektites, and telescopes; also a small fossil collection.
