Description

There's always something happening for you at the Museum, whether you're a preschooler, a big kid, or grown up. Come by yourself or in groups. Programs for kids and families are hands-on, sometimes featuring a special performer. Preschool circle time programs are offered Monday through Saturday in Children's Landscape.

Adults will find lots to interest them in our Sunday Series lectures, Saturday night film series, concerts, and other discussions and lecture programs. Special activities abound for Scouts, churches, home schools and other groups wanting a focused experience. Many programs are free; check individual listings to find out more.

Schools and Home Schoolers can spend an entire day – or several days – exploring the Museum's exhibits in self-guided tours. There are planetarium shows for all grades, and in addition to traditional astronomy and sky shows, teachers and students can see culturally-based programs, some produced by the Kalamazoo Valley Museum using local artists, storytellers and actors. The Challenger Learning Center's space science program is an intensive simulation experience for teachers and students in middle and high school grades.

The Kalamazoo Valley Museum Planetarium is a state of the art, 109 seat theater equipped with an Evans & Sutherland Digistar 4 full-dome laser projection system and a surround sound 5.1 audio system. Theater seats are equipped with five-button keypads that allow the audience to interact with many of the shows.

The Kalamazoo Valley Museum's Challenger Learning Center (CLC) is an innovative educational facility complete with a 21st century Space Station and Mission Control. Part of an international network, Challenger Learning Centers are founded in memory of the Challenger 51-L crew to carry on its educational mission. The CLC is a hands-on, fun, learning experience, designed to complement science and math curriculum for all ages.
