Description

The Fauquier Historical Society has over 300 members dedicated to preserving Fauquier County's rich history. The organization provides historic markers, educational programs, and information to guide visitors during their stay in Warrenton; including a walking tour of the Town of Warrenton's historic district.

The Old Jail Museum, located in the heart of downtown Warrenton, Virginia, is the home of the Fauquier Historical Society.

History

The Fauquier Historical Society of today was organized in 1964, primarily to save the historic Old Jail from destruction, and to create within the jail a museum of local history. The core membership of the new society was drawn from the "Save the Jail" committee. It was led by Gen. J. B. Rose, who served as president during the organizational period; Mrs. H. P Kelly, secretary; and George Coyle, treasurer. The charter creating the new Fauquier Historical Society, incorporated in November, 1964.

The Research Room

The Fauquier Historical Society has a variety of materials relating to Fauquier's rich history available at the Fauquier History Museum at the Old Jail's research room located upstairs in the 1808 building. The room is available by appointment only Wednesday through Monday between 8 A.M. and 4 P.M. For more information or to make an appointment contact the Fauquier History Museum at the Old Jail.
