Description

Founded by local citizen activists in the mid-1970s, hundreds of people have worked to build a strong grassroots environmental learning center touching the lives of more than 100,000 children and adults each year.

The gardens and trails at CNC are two of our star attractions! A stroll through the gardens or a hike down the trails is the perfect way to experience the wonders of nature. The lush gardens harbor beauty throughout the year and are prime viewing areas for native plants and butterflies. Step onto one of CNC's six woodland and wetland trails and you might just think you have been transported to a forest far from the city.

The Wildlife Department at the Chattahoochee Nature Center focuses on education and rehabilitation. More than 3,500 phone calls are received by the department each year, with topics ranging from animal identification to habitat destruction. Additionally, the wildlife staff provides medical assistance to injured birds of prey, reptiles and amphibians in the hope of releasing them back into the wild. Sometimes, if the animal will be unable to survive on its own, it becomes a resident of the Chattahoochee Nature Center and is used in our educational programs and exhibits to teach our visitors about the importance of protecting our native wildlife.

Come have fun at the Chattahoochee Nature Center with your entire family! No matter your age or adventure level - we have an activity for you! Come join us as we discover where nature comes alive!

Mission

The Mission of the Chattahoochee Nature Center is to provide unique learning experiences focused on the Chattahoochee River that connect people to the natural world and empower them to positively impact their local environments.

History

The Chattahoochee Nature Center is located on the Chattahoochee River in Roswell and sits on a beautiful site comprised of 127 acres of native plants and gardens that showcase the beauty of Georgia. It has a River Boardwalk, Discovery Center, wetland demonstration gardens and woodland trails that are home to over 50 species of injured, non-releasable wildlife. For 30 years, this facility has continued to grow and reach out to citizens as a place to explore new ideas and expand the awareness of the natural world.

Educational Programs

CNC offers a range of natural history and water science programs for elementary to high school aged students. Our new adult education programs are now offering adult learners a range of experiences from photography to mountain biking. We also hold three exciting festivals a year, day camps and programs for scouts and birthdays.
