Tours are limited to groups of 10 or more and are $5 per person. To book a tour, call Carol at 618-498-2811. All buildings are open for tours during our annual Apple Festival, which is held the first Saturday in October.

Our three-acre site of the Jersey County Historical Society includes the historic Cheney Mansion, Lone Star School, McAdams Log Cabin and Union Forest Church and our genealogy research center.
The Jersey County Historical Society is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing historical artifacts, records and family genealogies from Jersey County?s rich past.
Our society was found in the early 1900s.
The Jersey County Historical Society museum includes a transpor-tation room, seven domestic rooms, a brides' room, and a military room.
The Flautt Addition of our museum houses many interesting artifacts and collections, including an extensive collection of Native American relics and a mammoth bone.
Our genealogy center contains an extensive collection of records, including:
Jersey, Greene, and Calhoun County federal and state census records, some dating back to 1820
Jersey, Greene, and Calhoun County marriage records
Jersey County mortality schedules and death and funeral records
A comprehensive list of Jersey County cemeteries and burial lists
Jersey and Greene County historical narratives
Jersey County plat books and atlases
Thousands of family genealogy files organized by surname. These files may contain family trees, photos and newspaper clippings from the 1800s and 1900s.
The teachers of the younger grades like to bring their students on tours of our property. We explain how the community was formed and developed, we allow them to sit at the original school desks at the Lone Star School. We try to instill a little bit of pride towards the early pioneers and their ancestors during our tours. In the month of May we usually have several hundred children touring our facilities to get a touch of history.

We publish a quarterly newsletter for members of our society.
The Union Forest Church provides a charming location for intimate weddings.
The Cheney Mansion may be booked for tours and catered lunches.
It takes a great deal of work to maintain our facilities. We are always looking for volunteers who are willing to help with an array of jobs, including cleaning and maintaining our
buildings and grounds, working in the flower gardens, and serving as tour guides.
