Description

Museum is a former jail and Sheriff residence (1866-1974). Collection features a room dedicated to Central Normal College, a teacher's college once vibrant in Danville from the 1800's through the 1950's. Also featured is a military room displaying many artifacts.

History

The Museum was founded by the Hendricks County Historical Society in 1975 in the former county jail and sheriff's residence, which has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The jail cells are on the tour, as is the sheriff's residence, which was a Victorian home.

Artifact Collections

Furniture, equipment, etc., in Victorian style. American Indian artifacts; Central Normal College/Canterbury College Collection; agricultural equipment; spinning and weaving and other household equipment and furnishings.

Research Collections

Central Normal/Canterbury College Year books and partical grade books.

Educational Programs

We provide tours of the Museum for classes studying Indiana history. We don't loan our materials.

Governance

County owns the building.
