Description

The 1867 log cabin, the 1874 Rosebud School, the 1938 Parr Post Office, and the recent Blacksmith Shop are open during the Jasper County Fair at the Jasper County Fairgrounds just east of Rensselaer on Indiana Highway 114. This village is open Sunday, July 18, Tuesday, July 20, and Thursday, July 22 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. For visits at other times, telephone the numbers above.

Jasper County Historical Society meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Museum, 479 N. Van Rensselaer St., Rensselaer, Indiana, 47978. Visitors and guests are welcome. We do not meet in July or August.

Its purpose is to collect and preserve letters, pictures, records, artifacts, and any items of significance to the history of Jasper County, Indiana, and its citizens.

History

The Jasper County Historical Society was founded on June 20, 1966. It obtained an 1867 log cabin, an 1874 Rosebud School, a 1938 Parr Post Office for location at the Jasper County Fairgrounds west of Rensselaer, Indiana. In 1982, The Christian Scientist Church gave its building for use as a museum at 479 N. Van Rensselaer, Rensselaer, Indiana 47978.

Artifact Collections

General Robert Milroy, Charles Halleck, and Jasper County Schools, with a log cabin, one room school, and tiny post office at the entrance of the Jasper County Fairgrounds, Highway 114, west of Rensselaer.

Educational Programs

Presently, there is a Quilt Show to September 2011 of quilts from the collection and those on loan of 50 to 100 years or more in age. Milroy memorabilia is available along with a 1920's library.

The Vintage Views is a publication with many vintage photos and stories of the area in and around Rensselaer, Indiana. It is a quality publication published two times a year. We just published our 17th issue.
