Description

The Snite Museum of Art features collections that place it among the finest university art museums in the nation. It contains over 30,000 works representing many of the principal cultures and periods of world art history.

Exceptional holdings include the Jack and Alfrieda Feddersen collection of Rembrandt etchings, the Noah L. and Muriel Butkin collection of 19th-century French art, the John D. Reilly collection of Old Master and 19th-century drawings, the Janos Scholz collection of 19th-century European photographs, and the Mr. and Mrs. Russell G. Ashbaugh, Jr., collection of Mestrovic sculpture and drawings. Other collection strengths include Olmec and Preclassic Mesoamerican art, 20th-century art, Northern Native American art, and decorative and design arts.

Charles B. Hayes Family Sculpture Park new sculptures include a Jaume Plensa sculpture that was recently acquired by Snite Museum Advisory Council members Bill and Julie Ballard, Fern Temple IV by Fr. Austin Collins, and construction of a commissioned, site-specific public sculptural pathway created by artist Philip Rickey. Rickey’s Life of Christ/Cycle of Life artwork creates Notre Dame’s newest sacred space.

Friends

The Friends is the membership organization that encourages participation by individuals and businesses in museum-related education, fund-raising, social and community outreach activities. The Friends sponsor special events to increase community participation through annual, ongoing programs, such as the Christmas Benefit Dinner, High School Art Day, Breakfast/Cinema, museum bus trips, and receptions at exhibition openings. Many members enjoy the Art and Architecture summer series and art history classes during the academic year.

Shop

A limited selection of merchandise will be available for purchase at the Museum's visitor information desk or by mail order. These include Snite publications, exhibition catalogues, posters and cards.

Educational Programs
