Description

Frostburg Museum wishes to collect, preserve and present the things that have made our town special through the ages. We would like to present these artifacts in a pleasant and inviting environment and create an excitement in the visitors for our history. The museum operates through a large volunteer usage and has no paid permanent staff.

History

The building in which we are housed was built in 1899 and an addition placed in 1914. The building was used as an elementary school until 1975. The Museum Association opened the museum in part of the building in 1976. We now use most of the building and lease a classroom to a local day care center. With the change of curator in 2006, a new direction is beginning to emerge and the entire museum is being reset and displays are being added to and updated with many new aquisitions.

Artifact Collections

Historic items from the city of Frostburg and its surrounding areas. A cola mine reconstruction. Wood display of indigenous woods. Historical maps and books relating to coal mining in and around Frostburg. Local school history and artifacts with many class pictures and a school room setting.
