Description

The Fire Museum of Maryland is the third largest museum of its kind in the world and offers exhibits on the history of fire fighting, hand- and horse-drawn apparatus, the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904, as well as the reconstruction of Baltimore City's Engine House #8, the only cast-iron fire house in the area.

Throughout the building are videos and DVD's on a variety of fire related themes, as well as interactive programs for children. The children's Discovery Room was opened five years ago, and provides kids with a place where they can put on child-sized turnout gear and play on a full-size fire engine. The Museum has just finished the installation of a centralized heating and air conditioning system, and is currently starting the process of installing up-to-date, energy and environmentally safe lighting, as well as the upgrading of some of the Museum's exhibits.

The Museum offers a variety of school tours, including an archaeology "dig" of the Great Fire, a science-themed tour on constructing a fire engine, as well as programs for nursery school kids and others. We also offer a variety of outreach programs for adult and senior groups.

The Museum has a rental program for wedding receptions, dinners and other occasions, and also offers a birthday party program with special activities.
