Description

Our purpose is to offer a variety of experiences to adults and children by collecting, preserving, and interpreting items of historical interest and to recount Texas maritime history through artifacts, documents, and other materials of historical value; and to exhibit them to further the public interest, knowledge, and appreciation of such materials and their historical significance.

Our vision is to serve as the premier repository of Texas Maritime history and to continually increase public interest, visitation, and the education of our children.

History

The Texas Maritime Museum was incorporated in 1980, received its 501(c)(3) status in 1985 and became the official Maritime Museum of the State of Texas in 1987. Construction of the museum began the following year and we opened our doors to the public in July of 1989. In July of 2001 we added a lighthouse/elevator/observation deck to the Museum.

Artifact Collections

The Texas Maritime Museum has a permanent collection of 1,700 artifacts, 1,100 books in our library, and 1,100+ photographs related to the maritime history of Texas. All of our objects are in a searchable database.

Research Collections
