The Central Texas Oil Patch Museum was started in the 1980's by a few volunteers that were interested in preserving the history of the Oil Industry in Luling, Texas. These volunteers envisioned a new building and extensive grounds that would display pieces of the oil industry's history, including equipment and items of interest from Luling and the sourrounding area. With the assistance of local groups, the Walker's Bros. Building, one of the first buildings built in Luling, was secured in the 1990's as a museum. Displays were slowly created, and bits of Luling's history were added to tell the colorful sotory of the discovery of oil in the Luling area and its effect on the local economy and community. Local businesses and citizens have continued to donate historic items, time and financial assistance to help maintain the building and displays. Currently the Chamber of Commerce helps in keeping the museum open, and offers assistance to sightseers.
