Description

Contemporary Art for San Antonio/ The Blue Star Art Space is a non-profit, non-collecting contemporary art center. The Blue Star Art Space's by-laws mandate that a maximum of 50% of the board be artists. Its mission is to advance contemporary art by presenting challenging, culturally diverse exhibitions and programs. Further, Blue Star seeks to positively impact the lives of San Antonio youth by creating a community-based dialogue between artists and youths. Additionally, Blue Star aims at broadening San Antonio's local contemporary art experience by nurturing and showcasing local talent and participating in a diverse exchange on a regional, national and international level.

History

Founded in 1985, Blue Star Art Space, a non-profit, non-collecting contemporary visual arts orgainization, began with a series of programs that addressed the need for a contemporary art forum in San Antonio.

Today, Blue Star is moving forward with a newly defined mission and a restructured vision. While continuing to interact artistically within the state, region and nation, Blue Star is embarking into the international arena.

Through exhibitions, Arts-in-Educatin for youth and adults, lectures and workshops, Blue Star is developing and expanding its educational programs to impact the San Antonio community, mentor new arts professionals, and place San Antonio's premier artists in direct communication promoting international exchanges and create visibility for their work.

Educational Programs
