Description

History

The Crockett County Museum became a reality in 1939. It was located in the school until 1958 when it was moved to the gound floor of the three story Courthouse Annex.

This historic building was originally the Methodist Church built in 1926, later becoming the hospital until 1956. The Museum resided on the ground floor until completin of the new courthouse Annex. In 1998, the Museum began restoration to occupy the three story building.

The Museum is host to many events throughout the year. Among these are: Programs and Special Guest Presenters, Luncheons, Days Gone by Style Show; Annual Heritage Day and Christmas Open House.

Artifact Collections

Indian artifacts from the following periods: Paleo Period, Early, Middle, Late Archaic, Prehistoric and Late Pre-Historic and Historic period; 15 Quilts from 1829 to Present Day; Ranching tools & equipment ( saddles, spurs, etc….); An exellent list and photographs of Crockett County Veterans plus a list of Civil War Veterans who are buried in Ozona; Photographs and articles on Crocket Count People, businesses, ranching, oil and gas, schools, churches, hospitals, & Banks and Mounted aerial topography maps of entire Crockett County.

Educational Programs

The Crockett County Museum offers exhibitions, teacher workshops; docent programs, gallery tours, educators guide and lectures. The video " The History of Crockett County" gives information about the early geographic divisions that gave Crockett County and the sourrounding counties their present form. The museum's exhibit " Indians of Crockett County and Sourrounding Areas" presents vailid informatin on the Indians of this area. This exhibit won first place for exhibits in the state.

Publications

Quarterly newsletter and annual report given at the appreciation banquet. Publication " A History fo Crockett County".
