The Fayette Public Library and Fayette Heritage Museum & Archives(LMA) is a unique facility especially for a small rural community. All three entities are housed in one building and all staff are cross-trained in order to assist patrons and visitors in all three areas. The mission of the LMA is to preserve the history and promote the cultural heritage of the community; to promote education and love of reading for all; to provide the tools for research, past, present & future; and to enhance the quality of life for the diverse population.

History

Library service has been available to the citizens of La Grange since 1899. The city chose as its American Bicentennial project the construction of a new library/museum/ archives facility. Dedicated in 1978, the current facility houses a 20,000+ volume library collection. The archives/museum is responsible for nearly 1200 collections consisting of at least 95,000 items.

Artifact Collections

Various artifact collections pertaining to the history of Fayette County such as an extensive collection of early stonemason tools, horse racing sulky, delivery wagon, farming implements, textiles, military artifacts, etc.

Research Collections

Photographs, documents, ledgers, diaries, church & school records, county records, census records, cemetery indexes, newspapers, family histories, business records, building surveys, community histories, etc.
