Railway Museum of San Angelo

Description

The purpose of the Railway Museum of San Angelo is to preserve and restore the Historic Orient-Santa Fe Depot properties; to collect, preserve, and present the railway heritage of San Angelo and the Concho Valley; and to work with the City of San Angelo to be part of an expanded community plan for the historical and cultural development of the area.

History

The Historic Orient-Santa Fe Depot was originally the Texas headquarters for the Kansas City, Mexico & Orient Railway (KCM&O). In was built in 1909 and was operated by the KCM&O railroad until 1928 when it was bought by the Santa Fe Railroad. The Santa Fe then moved its San Angelo headquarters to the building and continued to operate from there until 1985. The 1989, local citizens were able to convince the Santa Fe Railroad to donate the building to the City for use as a museum and the Railway Museum of San Angelo opened to the public in 1997.

Exhibitions, teacher workshops, docent program, gallery tours, educators guide, lectures, fee is regular admission of $2.00 over 12 years old for groups of 15 or more. Some teacher workshops are free.
