The Texas Pioneer Arts Foundation operates the Henkel Square Pioneer Museum Village right in the heart of historic Round Top. It is a collection of buildings dating from the 1830's to 1900, all of which are fully furnished with artifacts from the extensive
Bybee Collection. The buildings include a simple log cabin, a
church/schoolhouse, several two-story dog-trot homes, a restored barn and an 1875 Apothecary. The Apothecary serves as the entrance to the museum and as a gift shop. The original owners built this in 1875 and the wife ran a photography studio in the back corner while the husband ran a pharmacy.
The Texas Pioneer Arts Foundation was founded in 1968 by Faith and Charles Bybee, avid collectors of buildings and artifacts from early Texas, paying particular attention to the Fayette County area and German immigrant population. The Texas Pioneer Arts Foundation operates the Henkel Square Pioneer Museum Village located on the town square of Round Top. TPAF also runs several guesthouses in
Round Top. These are historic buildings furnished with artifacts from the Bybee Collection. TPAF also has extensive commercial property holdings in Round Top that are leased to several other non-profit corporations for severly reduced rents to secure their viability. Other
commercial properties are rented to businesses at reduced rates to
maintain retail diversity in Round Top.
