Description

The museum collects and exhibits artifacts related to the history of the Parsons and Greater Area. The museum depicts the story of farm and family life with a focus on native American artifacts, pioneer settlers, and the importance of railroad and river transportation to the area.

Mission

The museum mission is to educate and instill a sense of pride in our city by collecting, preserving, and displaying important objects of historical, social, artistic, economic, and cultural significance to our community.

History

The museum has been open since 2007. Volunteer committees for documentation and research, publicity and public relations, collection, facilities, exhibits, education, story line, and resources are functioning.

Artifact Collections
rural American artifacts, rocks,minerals & fossils, Native American collection, local memobillia, farming, city history, schools and churches.
Research Collections
Limited to paper records and newspapers.
Educational Programs

The museum works with schools and the community to provide appropriate programs related to local history. Upcoming exhibitions include: How the Civil War impacted life in the Decatur County area by telling stories of civilians and soldiers in Decatur County during that time period - Fall 2011 The City of Parsons Centennial Celebration to tell stories of the area’s beginnings from the early 1800s to the present - 2013
