Tunica Riverpark & Museum
Robinsonville, Mississippi
Description

The Tunica RiverPark is an interpretive center overlooking a harbor carved out of the east bank of the Mississippi River which includes: a 48 ft. high observation platform, river overlooks, four large aquariums with native aquatic life, exhibits focusing on the relationship between the Delta, its wildlife, the levee system and the economic impact of the river on the area.

The beautiful Garden Terrace and promenade walk lead to a 1.9 mile nature trail designed for minimum environmental impact nestled in 130 acres of hardwood forests. This trail follows the river over the wetland area and into the woods behind the levee. This acreage is considered a "wildlife refuge" and a variety of wildlife can be observed from the trail.

A 200 foot long covered porch faces the river and guests are enticed to relax in our rocking chairs and view barges and other river traffic.

A spacious lobby is available for events after hours and a meeting room is available during business hours. All event areas have the spectacular view of the river.

A boat launch ramp is also available for public use.

History

The Tunica RiverPark was initiated by a study group to determine what would be best to build in the county that would offer our visitors an alternative to gaming. Since we have the river, the decision was made to build a one of a kind museum for guests to have a total "Mississippi River experience".
Construction began in 2001 and was completed in 2003.
The Tunica RiverPark officially opened November 19, 2003 and has received over 150,000 visitors to date.

Artifact Collections

Nearly 300 artifacts are displayed in the museum that help tell the stories of the Native Americans, soldiers, settlers, slaves, tenant farmers and riverboat workers in the Delta and along the river. The "living artifacts" in our aquariums include: catfish, buffalo, sunfish and many other species of fish along with alligators and several species of turtles and snakes. Interactive sections of the exhibition area include a dark conical chamber that will give those inside the impression of being in a diving bell submerged in the Mississippi.

Services

The Nature Trail and Gift Shop are free to the public.
