The history of the Town of Porter is shaped by the lower Niagara River and the Great Lakes by its relationship to old Fort Niagara and proximity to Canada which gives it its ecomonic and cultural heritage.
The historical society's purpose is to promote this heritage to local residents and visitors through a wide range of research and educational programs aimed at multigenerational audiences, through exhibits and collections, and through an active museum that is enhanced by collaborations and technology.
Over 30 years of service to the community. Began as a historical society and then added a Museum.
The Museum is housed on the second floor of the Village Civic Center which is a two story brick school house. The society has 4 rooms. One room is an old school room exhibit.

Numerous publications are available for purchase. A DVD titled: A Walk Through Time: Youngstown, New York 16 min. created through grants to Dr. Mark Barner of Niagara University. $15.00 Donation for this DVD goes to maintain and further the educational programs.
