Our Railroad Heritage Museum is named in honor of our longtime, former mayor and wife, Martin and Sue King. It is located in the heart of downtown Cleveland, next to the old depot. The museum houses many artifacts, documents, photos, and memorabilia pertaining to the rail heritage of the Mississippi Delta region. Also, the museum showcases a 70' X 17' O gauge model railroad layout that runs daily, Monday through Saturday, beginning at 1:00.
Exhibits in the museum change periodically. The topics range from the early rail and timber industry to the music associated with the railroad. Each exhibit pulls from the permanent collections and may also include artworks and artifacts borrowed from other institutions such as the nearby Delta State University Archives.
Special exhibitions are available as Traveling Exhibits.
The goal of this museum is preserve and promote the history and the culture of the railroad and its impact on the Mississippi Delta.
The museum houses all artifacts, documents, and photos in proper archival materials and in the proper environment.
The museum routinely welcomes field trips from area and regional schools, all grades, as well as Delta State University. We have hosted teacher workshops and groups from DSU. We will also be hosting the Mississippi Municipal League's Youth Summit in March and the retired rail workers reunion in the summer of 2011.
