We gratefully acknowledge the incredible support the National Hispanic Cultural Center receives from our generous community, on a local, regional and national level. Because of our growth and success it's easy to forget that the Center is still in its infancy, having opened its doors only 10 years ago. And yet last year alone we welcomed over 375,000 visitors to our campus.
The Pete V. Domenici Education Center at the National Hispanic Cultural Center is now complete and open to the public. This latest addition to the campus houses the Cultural Center’s Education Program, the Instituto Cervantes and the Spanish Resource Center. The Education Program hosted over 35,000 students and educators for free performances, workshops and docents led tours.
Master artist Frederico Vigil just completed his fresco masterpiece in the Torreón, located here on our campus. This crown jewel of our community opened to the public on October 10, 2010 and is sure to attract countless visitors from around the globe.
The other signature outstanding programs include History and Literary Arts Department with their successful Latino Writer’s Conference with attendance at an all time record number, the Visual Arts Department with outstanding exhibits and the Roy E. Disney Performing Arts Center with many productions being done in collaboration with other local entities.
Offering the perfect gifts year-round, La Tiendita features unique Latin American and New Mexican artesanía, books, jewelry, accessories, home décor, music and more. Located next door to the Art Museum, La Tiendita carries postcards of the Art Museum’s permanent collection, as well as posters and exhibit catalogues of select exhibits. The National Hispanic Cultural Center’s Art Museum is acquiring a permanent collection of important works of art from New Mexico and throughout the United States, Latin America, and Spain, as well as from other regions of the Spanish diaspora. The Art Museum’s collecting efforts focus on artists' boundless creative energy and enthusiasm from the most dedicated of traditional artists and craftspeople within the New Mexican Hispanic historical heritage, to the most experimental of contemporary visionaries working in cutting edge materials. In contemporary society Hispanic/Latino artists work in all media including materials and techniques passed down through generations, to those currently being created on a state of the art computer or scientific lab. The Center's permanent collection reflects the best work made by the best of these image makers.
An arm of both the Spanish Embassy and the University of New Mexico, the Spanish Resource Center supports Spanish teaching and offers cultural program to the public.
