Crossroads Museum

Description

Crossroads Museum is located half block from the historic downtown area of Saukville. The intersecting triangle of three ancient Indian trails.

Originally built in 1912 as Saukville's first fire station and houses the origianal Pumper and first motorized 1937 engine.

The main room contains, geological artifacts, memoribilia and collections of family histories. Portions of the bridge that once spanned the Milwaukee river are on permanent display as the "Gateway to the Crossroads".

Mission

="An institution maintaining area identity and foundation in the visual records. No other area is as important to that identity as the artifacts and photographs of their past . Those artifacts define what we were, make us who we are and help us to become what we will be.

History

The original building included a hose tower and is constructed of brick. Additions were added in 1946 to accomodate the village's growing need for fire protectection. The historical society was assigned owership in 1998 and restored the two main rooms of the building.

Artifact Collections

Geological, early businesses, sports, photos, 1911 horse drawn pumper engine, 1937 fire truck and military. Collections.ResearchCollections=Settlers, buisness, churches, government, fire department, industry and cemetary records.

Programs

Wisconsin History of pre 1840 fur trade era in mid May. Firefighting history with rides on the '37 engine (October). Self guided walking tour at the triangle, brochures available.
