Description

The MILITARY HERITAGE COLLECTION OF NORTH TEXAS houses a growing collection of small arms, military vehicles, uniforms and other military equipment from the US and around the world. Unlike many museums "HANDS ON HISTORY" is part of our core philosophy and the public can interact with our collection.

We enjoy meeting visitors and try our utmost to accommodate all requests for visits, however weather and availability of volunteers may delay request.

Our fleet of operating military vehicles range from motorcycles to armored vehicles, visitors are encouraged to explore the vehicles and we run them for visitors on a regular basis. Vehicles and other artifacts in the collection regularly attend parades and events all over North Texas.

To see whats it's like to ride in one of our vehicles check out one of our videos on YOUTUBE.

Mission

The Military Heritage Collection of North Texas exists to collect, preserve and exhibit artifacts to honor America's military veterans and to educate the public on the rich heritage and traditions of the United States military.

History

Formed around 2008 the collection is entirely operated by unpaid volunteers and receives no external funding assistance.

Artifact Collections

The collection is open to the general public and hosts a growing number of veteran, school, youth, civic and other groups. We try our utmost to ensure that the collection is presented in a way that will do justice to the artifacts.

Long term preservation of the collection is of primary importance to us as custodians of the artifacts and we have active ongoing preservation and restoration plans for everything from uniforms to armored vehicles.

Educational Programs

We stage a number of unique events of our own during the year and as part of an outreach program we provide military vehicles and artifacts for display at events all over the North Texas area.

DRIVE A "TANK"

To date we have managed to develop and grow the museum with little external help and no taxpayer money, however we now find ourselves in the position where the size of the collection and number of visitors we are attracting require that we expand significantly. To meet our immediate needs we need to build an additional 7200 sq ft of display and storage space. The new building will allow material we have in storage to be displayed, add some additional restrooms and allow our visitors to view projects we have under restoration. Any and all money raised will directly go to the the construction of this new building and we hope by offering the opportunity to drive and ride some of the vehicles in the collection we can raise some of the money needed.

Includes Introduction to vehicle operation/safety and driving instruction, followed by the opportunity to drive the vehicle.
