We are a small local museum filled with donations of DuBois related items from students and friends. We encourage visits by having no fee. We encourage yearly membership. We plan events that educate about DuBois students They had a rough time, but made it through. We hope to have others learn from that and not allow themselves to be victimized by their poverty.
The DuBois on Main Museum will present the history and contributions of DuBois High School (1917-1956). The museum will inform, educate and provide oppoertunities for inter-generational and interracial gatherings and workshops through exhibits of pictorial, biographical and historical artifacts. The outstanding teachers, accomplished graduates, scholars, athletes and dedicated families created a remarkable environment little seen today. This history of a people, place and time can establish an identity and sense of pride for the enrichment of the community.
DuBois on Main is 6 years old. We qualified for a WV historical marker due to the fact that our new school was DuBois only 2 years, when the BOE desegregated DuBois by bringing the white students from Mt. Hope into our school and changing the name to Mt.Hope High School. Research has shown us to qualify for a historical marker due to the fact that desegregation was very unusual. Because black schools were not built to the same standards as white schools, they would not last long. We will dedicate the marker on Sat. Sept. 1, 2018.
Our collection of pictures, newspapers, diplomas, typewriter, trophies, a clarinet, and the plaque from the wall of the new DuBois High School.
1938 Echo yearbook found at WV Div. of History & Culture. Many pictures of students, teachers activities are on display.
Walls are filled with exhibitions and changed periodically. Programs relating to specific former students and their activities are done periodically. Tours are done as requested by organizations or individuals.
We are located on the first floor of a historic building. Main exhibit room and community room with seating available for 25 or more. We make it work.

We are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization governed by a board of directors and operating strictly on a volunteer basis.

In the past, we distributed an annual report. Because of technology, we post online frequently.
We have relevant items for sale. Our community room with kitchen facilities is offered for a donation of choice.
Donate your relative's history. That diploma, report card, item of clothing, etc are part of history. Come by and read The Echo..learn what their life was really like. Volunteers are needed. Let's talk.
