The Museum’s 17,000 square foot facility features twelve permanent interactive exhibits, including Tucson Electric Power’s Electri-¬City, the Música de las Americas music room, the Art Studio, Dinosaur World, the Ocean Discovery Center, the Public Safety Station, Mind Your Own Body, Build It, Whistle Stop, Pet Vet and more. We also have the Enchanted Rain Forest which is specially designed for children four years and under.
Play is the primary component in the Museum’s interactive exhibits. Focusing on learning by doing encourages fun educational experiences between children and their parents/caregivers. Beyond play, the Tucson Children’s Museum provides our community’s children a great out-of-classroom space, as all of our exhibits are aligned with Arizona Academic Standards. To foster learning, we offer six age-appropriate Adventure Learning Tours that include a demonstration or activity coupled with Museum exploration.
The Museum offers special monthly events, programming for preschoolers and daily children’s activities. The Tucson Children’s Museum is also committed to exploring and celebrating the diverse cultures in our community. Each fall/winter season, the Museum hosts the Children’s Social Powwow and the Festivals of Friendship, a series of multicultural celebrations highlighting the distinct cultures in Tucson.
Accessibility to the Museum is an important component of the Tucson Children’s Museum’s value in our community. The Museum offers reduced admission days, free special events and the Fred Henninger Fund which provides free memberships to families in crisis, in need and with children who have special needs.
The Museum’s youth volunteer program involves students aged 15 and up. The program engages 125 participants annually from schools throughout Pima County. Additionally, the Museum has an active Youth Board as well as adults who volunteer their time.
The Tucson Children’s Museum endeavors to be a resource for all children while reflecting the diversity in our community. Eighty percent of visitors reside in Pima County with forty percent coming from low-income neighborhoods and forty percent of overall visitors self-identifying as minorities.
The Tucson Children’s Museum is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to provide fun, play-based, interactive, hands-on learning experiences for children and their families. With foresight and determination, a handful of prominent Tucsonans opened the Museum in 1986 in a one room building at Ft. Lowell Park. In 1991, the Tucson Children’s Museum moved into the historic Carnegie Library building in downtown Tucson. In 2009, over 102,000 children and families visited the Tucson Children’s Museum.
The Tucson Children's Museum is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization providing hands-on learning experiences for children. Organized in 1986 by community volunteers, the Museum will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2006. Since 1991, the Museum has been located in the City's old Carnegie Library in downtown Tucson. More than 69,000 children and adults visited the Tucson Children's Museum in Fiscal Year 2004-2005, a twelve percent increase over the previous year. Our geographic focus is Southern Arizona, primarily Pima County.
The Museum offer hands-on activities for children on a daily basis.
Guided tours are available for groups of ten or more children.
The Museum also offers a variety of special events throughout the year including: Children's Social Powwow, Día de los Muertos exhibits, the Festivals of Light, Physics Phun Day and much more.
