History

About the Gallery The Visual Arts Gallery was founded in 1970 on the Pensacola Campus of Pensacola State College. The gallery is a collecting institution whose primary functions are to collect, and preserve works of mid-career artists while exhibiting, presenting and interpreting modern and contemporary artwork in all media. In 2002 the Visual Arts Gallery was renamed the Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts commemorating the long time association Pensacola State College has had with the Switzer, Rielly families. Annually the gallery hosts five exhibitions, two invitational exhibitions showcasing the work of regional mid-career artists, the Switzer Distinguished Artist exhibition, showcasing the work of a Nationally recognized artist, the Art Students Honors Exhibition, and the Faculty Exhibition. Each year more than 40,000 people visit the Gallery, attending lectures, and participate in other activities hosted by the Gallery.
