Young At Art Museum
Davie, Florida
Description

Young At Art Children’s Museum - a unique, hands-on children's museum, shifts the paradigm of arts education from learning about art to using art for learning. FCAT compatible programs integrate art into all key subject areas including math, language, reading, science and social studies. Children enter a new dimension of learning and creativity by touching, exploring, creating, imagining and enjoying the limitless possibilities of art.

Mission

To provide hands-on cultural, educational and arts experiences for youth that awaken their creativity in a fun and enriching environment.

History

Young At Art incorporated in 1986, and after three years of providing community outreach programs as a “Museum Without Walls”, opened its doors in 1989 to over 1,000 visitors in attendance at the Grand Opening Celebration. Young At Art quickly outgrew the 3200 sq. ft. storefront and was approached by the Town of Davie and Broward County Libraries to relocate into a larger facility. In March 1998, YAA moved to its current 25,000 sq. ft. facility - eight times larger than its former site - with $500,000 in contributions from corporations, individuals and government. Young At Art is one of only 3 children’s museums in the nation that focuses on the arts and multicultural appreciation. In the past 20 years, Young At Art has served more than a million families through 6 permanent gallery and national traveling exhibitions, art studio classes, demonstrations by professional artists, and special events. Thousands of disadvantaged children are served through free admission, art studio scholarships, and Very Special Art programs encouraging the physically and mentally challenged. YAA developed ARTREACH, an afterschool arts and homework asistance program in collaboration with Broward County Schools to serve homeless children living in transitional shelters.
