Established in 1951, the Museum of Art - DeLand, Florida, formerly known as the Museum of Florida Art, is a vital and interactive non-profit community visual arts museum dedicated to the collecting, preservation, study, display and educational use of the fine arts. In addition to the permanent collection, the Museum is host to several rotating exhibits, gallery talks and receptions, educational programming, master artist workshops and special events throughout the year.

Mission

The Museum of Art - DeLand, Florida is a vital and interactive non-profit community visual arts museum dedicated to the collecting, preservation, study, display and educational use of the fine arts. In addition to the permanent collection, the Museum is host to several rotating exhibits, gallery talks and receptions, educational programming, master artist workshops and special events throughout the year.

History

The original Museum was established by the American Association of Women in 1951 as the DeLand Children's Museum. In 1965 it was reincorporated as the DeLand Museum of Art and 41 years later, in 2006, became the Museum of Florida Art. In 2013, the Museum was rebranded as the Museum of Art - DeLand, Florida, to represent the broader scope of exhibitions and related programming involving works of art from artists across the state of Florida and from across the globe.

In 2011, The Evans C. and Betty Drees Johnson Children's Art Center was established to provide unique educational arts programming for children that works in tandem with the Museum?s exhibitions, and in 2013, the Museum of Art - DeLand expanded into the downtown historic area opening a New York-style gallery and Museum Store at 100 N. Woodland Blvd.

The Museum of Art - DeLand is recognized statewide by its peers for academic excellence and its community outreach. The Museum's Departments of Art & Exhibition, Education and Special Events work together to help serve the community each year through numerous enriching experiences. Museum and community members of every age, from pre-K thru 12 and from college students to retired adults, participate in a wide range of lifelong learning programming developed and coordinated by the Museum of Art - DeLand, Florida's staff and directors and its partnered teaching professionals.

Educational Programs

The Museum of Art - DeLand, Florida's Education Department serves its diverse audience as a vital, innovative, and welcoming center for learning through the visual arts. Opportunities for connecting to art exist with each new exhibition and through the study of the Museum?s permanent collections.

Developed and facilitated by the Curator of Education, a broad range of Museum programming delivers enjoyable and enriching experiences for visitors of all ages with varying levels of art familiarity. These include lectures, discussions, gallery talks, tours and field studies, art classes and workshops, art camps and community outreach presentations.

As an education partner with schools and community groups, the Museum of Art - DeLand, Florida offers several field study and tour options for students from K-12 and provides teacher materials and professional development opportunities that result in exceptional working partnerships with area schools. Through varied programs and integrated approaches to delivering art education, the Museum connects students with varying learning styles and teachers with expertise in many academic disciplines.

Museum Store Downtown Location, 100 N. Woodland Blvd.

The new Museum Store at the downtown satellite offers a wide variety of items from fine art posters, stationary and jewelry to kitchen gadgets, bar accessories, shirts, scarves and children’s art materials. Name brand items include Design Ideas, By Design, Kikkerland Design, Spark, Franklin Lloyd Wright and others.

The Museum Store at the main location, opposite Stetson University, offers a wide variety of books, original works of artist jewelry and pottery, fine art prints, greeting cards, postcards, stationary and children’s items.
