Description

Come cultivate your senses at a spectacular new Naples Botanical Garden. Our “gardens with latitude” offer you some of the world’s most diverse plant communities and interesting cultures. These are between the 26th latitude north where Naples is situated, and the 26th latitude south. Our subtropical location gives us the opportunity to showcase gardens that represent countries and regions from between theses latitudes as they encircle the globe.

Naples Botanical Garden is creating a world-class paradise that combines magnificent cultivated tropical gardens with beautifully restored natural habitats. The Garden connects people and plants through display, action, edcuation, conservation and science. It is a community gathering place and an exceptional venue for exploring our natural world as well as enjoying special events, traveling exhibitions and performances.

Through a partnership with Florida Gulf Coast Universtiy, the Garden has also opened the Harvey Kapnick Research and Education Center which is used in conjunction with the Garden. The Center will be utilized for the education of future generations as well as the continued research for industry experts.

The plants aren't the only things visitors will see growing at the Garden, as three new Gardens are slated to be opened later in 2010 with plans for additional buildings being constructed shortly thereafter.

History

In 1993, a group of eight Naples residents founded the Garden with nothing more than the dream of creating a world-class botanical garden. In 2000, a gift from the Kapnick Family enabled the purchase of an extraordinary 170-acre site with seven different habitats just south of Old Naples. An exisiting strip mall and parking lot were transformed into a garden experience to introduce the community to what was to come. In 2009, the Garden closed to general visitors to begin our ultimate transformation which was unveiled in November of 2009 with the opening of three new gardens designed by renowned landscape architects from around the world.
