Description

The Historical Society offers a variety of resources to aid the genealogist in their search for their ancestors. While some are HSSC reprints or publications and are available for purchase; others may be viewed in the library such as: maps, microfilms, newspapers and more. Below is an idea of what we carry in the various categories.

The well-stocked library of the Society has a wide variety of publications on the history of the county. Subjects covered in the library include: Canals, anthracite coal mining, Civil War, city directories, family histories, town, borough and township histories, military and railroads.

The Society's library has a great deal of records on genealogy and the history of Schuylkill County. The Society makes this data available to members, people who are interested in genealogical research, and those who have questions about the history of the county.

Each year the Society receives hundreds of inquiries from people seeking assistance on researching records of Schuylkill County families. If the correspondent clearly identifies the ancestor as having lived in Schuylkill County, a city, town, or township within the geographic confines of Schuylkill County, we will offer to give the following services: Search our index to the original family names of Schuylkill County and send photocopies of the same.

In addition to the genealogical research service, the Society also provides research services on any topic of a general nature that may have occurred in Schuylkill County.

PLEASE SEE OUR WEBSITE FOR CURRENT FEES.
