Description

565 acre nature preserve and historic, rustic Adirondack style summer estate that belonged to several Scranton industrial barons.

Mission

Education - Preservation - Research

History

Built in 1903 by coal mine baron Charles Connell who later served in Congress. Sold to Col. Louis Watres, Scranton industrialist and Lt. Governor. Watres used it as a base to purchase land and manage creation of Lake Wallenpaupack. Donated by the family to a non-profit group in 1966. Lacawac is on the National Registry of Historic Places, is a National Natural Landmark, and is a Pennsylvania State Native Plant Preserve.
