Description

The Award winning museum, dedicated to the civilian experience during the Battle of Gettysburg, is situated in the heart of Gettysburg's historic district. The home of George and Hettie Shriver appears much the way it did when it was first built in 1860. Today, guides in period dress recount the harrowing story of the Shriver family's experiences. The thirty minute tour includes all four floors including the Confederate sharpshooters nest in the attic where at least two were known to have been killed.

History

Established in 1995 through private contributions, the Shriver House was completly restored to it's original 1860 appearance. The museum is used to interperate the civilian experience during the Battle of Gettysburg and typical home life during the war years. The museum has received numerous awards including the State of Pennsylvania "Restoration of the Year" Award.

Artifact Collections

Period furnishings and collectables from the time. Live Confederate amunition discovered during retoration.
