Mission

The Lenexa Historical Society is a nonprofit organization created to encourage community involvement and dedicated to the appreciation, preservation, and promotion of Lenexa's historical heritage. We accomplish this through our sponsorship of educational meetings, participation in community events & festivals, and in our partnership with the City of Lenexa to manage the Legler Barn Museum complex.

History

Built in 1864 by early Lenexa resident Adam Legler, the Legler barn is one of the few stone barns still in existence in Kansas. It was originally situated on the Santa Fe Trail at the corner of 95th and Quivira, Lenexa, Kansas, and reconstructed in 1983 at its current location in Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park. Today the barn houses a museum operated by the Lenexa Historical Society. Guided tours are provided by staff and volunteers.
