Description

The Ashwaubenon Historical Society actively collects historical artifacts of northeast Wisconsin and specifically Ashwaubenon. The Society's exhibits inlcude antique farm equipment circa 1800's, turn of the century farm house, school exhibit. The Society also actively collects and displays military artifacts and puts on a special display around veterans day. Items collected include original Nazi Driving Diary, A Japense World War II flying suit, numerous uniforms from World War I, II, Vietman, Korea. Pictures of World War II Battles, Extensive pictures of Tarawa Island both American GI's and Japanese. In their art collection the society has 3 murals denoting historical events painted in the 1930's as part of the WPA projects. They also possess one of the largest Tramp and Hobo art collections in the Midwest with well over 2,000 pieces in the collection form tables to "whimsy sticks". An accompanying video on one artist from Green Bay, Wisconsin who specialized in "whittling" hobo tram art for many of the 92 years of his life. Special events are also held. The summer of 2005 a 1950's 1960's events features fashion of the era, a 1950 Customline Ford, household items, Hull Pottery, toys and more. The exhibit will culminate in September with a special car show.

The Ashwaubenon Historical Society was informed in 1971 to save the history of a suburban community with a proud agrarian past.

The society keeps an archive of pictures and written documents mostly concerning the history of Ashwaubenon and adjoining areas. Ashwaubenon is located adjacent to Green Bay, Wisconsin

Educational Programs

We have extensive student outreach to abount 400 4th and 6th graders in the Ashwaubenon School District and also children in adjoining school districts. Adult pogram included sponsoring the Wisconsin Wagon Trail for the Susquacentennial, various historical program on local history.
