The Price County Historical Society has a program that takes artifacts from the 1890's to the early 1900's into the classroom. It is a hands on type of presentation tailored to students from fourth grade on up. The program blends in the best if presented within an historical unit of study. The presenter will wear period clothes while demonstrating the use of artifacts, such as: dishes, clothes, pictures, tools and other everyday items. Duration of the presentation can be tailored to classroom needs. A mileage fee is charged for presentations outside of the Price County area.
The Traveling Trunk program is an educational outreach project co-sponsored by The Price County Historical Society and The Price County Veterans Service. The goal of the project is to have a W.W. II footlocker filled with military paraphernalia from each branch of service from the Civil War to the present time period. The footlocker, accompanied by local Veterans armed with lesson plans, will travel to your school, classroom, library, etc. In some cases, a hands on presentation will be used. The presentation will show students and others what the soldier was issued, such as: uniform, gas mask, canteen, and other equipment. Explanation of insignias, medals and ribbons will be included. The presentation will also show the relationship (training and equipment) between past and present veterans. Time of the presentation will be tailored to your needs.
The Master Gardener Program is a nationwide program. In Wisconsin it is an organization of volunteers in horticulture. After training in all aspects of gardening through the University of Wisconsin-Extension, members are certified as Master Gardeners.
Gardeners become involved in educating other members of their communities, answering questions and providing information, whether at local gardening events, special workshops, or on UW-Extension supported garden phone lines. Master Gardeners present talks on perennials, plant propagation, native plants, and other topics for various groups throughout the state. They also undertake projects to beautify their communities, as was the case with the Price County Historical Society's Greenfield School next to the Old Fifield Town Hall Museum as shown in the photo.
