The Uintah County Heritage Museum is an educational institution that curates and preserves a collection of historical objects from the time of the first peoples to the present. It offers an enjoyable family experience that chronicles the activities of all of the peoples of the Uinta Basin, teaching visitors the values of a diverse and dynamic populace. The museum engages the community and promotes cultural heritage programs through a series of tours, workshops, themed art shows and exhibitions.
The Museum tells stories of the past, connecting them to the present, and illustrating how even in the future we will be part of history.
We tell the stories of the Ute People, many of whom were forced to adapt to a harsh environment after others took over their homelands, and the Fremont people, who left no one behind to share their history. We highlight the entrepreneurs who built a thriving community, those who found wealth by tapping into the Basin's natural resources, and the ranchers and homesteaders who divided the land into what the Basin has become today
The Uintah County Heritage Museum features displays of the individuals and groups who traveled to the Uinta Basin and chose to stay. It is a story of resilience and transformation. We share the histories of outlaws like the infamous Butch Cassidy and lawmen such as "The Sheriff to the Outlaws," John T. Pope.
Come in and explore the journey of the people who made this high mountain desert their home.
The Uintah County Heritage Museum preserves and promotes the heritage of the Uinta Basin region from the time of the first peoples forward, by presenting an excellent educational museum experience to the community and its visitors, connecting the past, present, and future to the world around us.
The Uintah County Heritage Museum opened its doors on June 29, 1991, within Uintah County's Western Park Complex. In 2014, the Museum celebrated its relocation to 155 E. Main Street in Vernal, Utah. This move played a pivotal role in shaping the Museum into what it is today.

The Uintah County Heritage Museum is governed by Uintah County, Utah, and its commissioners.
Every summer, the Uintah County Library hosts an all inclusive summer reading program to promote reading, learning, and fun for everyone.
This program will begin on the first Tuesday in June! It will start at 10:00 am and end at 12:00 pm in the downstairs Conference Room in Library.

Audio tours and electronic displays (to allow for more control over font and size) are undergoing construction.
The Uintah County Heritage Museum Gift Shop has a wide variety books, toys and souvenirs for everyone! Our books cover many topics ranging from local and regional history, the Ute Tribe, the American West, Outlaws and Lawmen, historical figures and more!
The website outlines a manual purchasing process without requiring a visit to the museum. There is no direct purchasing available online.

Parking is accessed through the County's lot behind the building, or the Uintah County Library parking lot. There is a small lot for visitors that has accessible parking spots for visitors to use. The ramp is not directly in front of the parking spots, it is located opposite, or to the left, of the parking spots with the yellow truncated dome mat.
There is an elevator to reach the second level of the museum. The staircase has railings. There are no steps on the main floor or upstairs besides the staircase and emergency exit route. Emergency exits on the main floor are flush to the sidewalk.
Upon request staff can provide closer up experience for vision impaired.

The Uintah County Heritage Museum encourages fine arts within the community by featuring a new exhibit each month.
Throughout the year, artists showcase a diverse range of art, sculpture, and photography. In addition, the Museum houses a wide variety of fine art alongside its artifacts, including several special collections.
