Museum building log cabin like is situated on a rise at the edge of, and overlooking, the village of Anaktuvuk Pass. From the front porch visitors can take in the magnificent panorama of the pass the headwaters of the major rivers.

Simon Paneak Memorial Museum focuses on recording and preserving the history, traditions, and artifacts of the Nunamiut. Drawing on data gathered from past and present elders. This accomplishment by the presentation, dissemination and interpretation of these materials through public exhibitions, educational programs and continuing research.

Existing since September 26, 1986 "...exhibits and displays inside offer insights into the origins and physical environment of the mountains and the history of the Nunamiut people."
