Archaeological Site and Living History Museum. Mission San Luis transports visitors to a community where Apalachee Indians and Spaniards were drawn together by religion, military and economic purposes. Today visitors to San Luis discover a re-created colonial town including a Franciscan church, friary, Hispanic village, Apalachee council house and a fort, Castillo de San Luis. A new visitor center houses a catering hall seating 250, theatre, classrooms, and a gift shop.

In the 1800s, Mandarin was a small farming village that shipped oranges, grapefruit, lemons and other fruits and vegetables to Jacksonville and points north on the steamships that traveled the St. Johns River. In 1864, the Union steamship, the Maple Leaf, hit a Confederate mine and sank just off Mandarin Point. Author Harriet Beecher Stowe wintered in the village from 1867 to 1884. Mandarin now is a small section of the City of Jacksonville, Florida, but its natural beauty, parks and historic buildings draw visitors from around the world. The Mandarin Museum at the Walter Jones Historical Park is open. Special tours may be requested.

Moccasin Lake Nature Park is an Environmental and Energy Education Center providing residents and visitors to beautiful Clearwater with a natural retreat from the concrete and asphalt setting of the urban environment and offers a change of vistas from the famous white sandy beaches. This is a place where you can enjoy a small piece of Florida's natural history. Come walk the nature trails where you might visually encounter egrets, ospreys, butterflies, turtles or the occasional alligator.
