Culture, History, Historic House

Although it was built in 1896, the C. S. Roberts House, an Eastlake style mansion, has changed very little over time. The dual gas/electric chandeliers, the seven gas fireplaces and other features such as pocekt doors and speaking tubes have never been modernized. Many items of furniture, such as the tall case clock on the stairs, have stood in the same position for over 100 years. Today, the historic house museum shows visitors the world of a middle class business owner and his family and servants in Texas in the years 1896 to the First World War. Our many special events and publications relate to the preservation and promotion of the understanding of the regions history and architecture.
