The 544-acre estate is composed of gently rolling hills divided into a farm complex, hayfields, pasture, man-made and natural ponds, and forests. Tobler Creek, a spring fed waterway, intersects the property entering near the west corner and meandering down to exit at the middle of the southeast boundary.

Founded in 1973 as Nexus, a grassroots artist’s cooperative, Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (ACAC) has become one of the southeast’s leading contemporary art centers. We play a vital role in Atlanta’s cultural landscape by presenting cutting-edge contemporary art reflective of the world around us, offering diverse educational programming for people of all ages, and supporting working artists and their creative process. ACAC presents 8-10 exhibitions per year featuring consequential artists from the local to international art scenes. We are one of the few local institutions that commissions new works by artists. We pay particular attention to artists of note who have not had a significant exhibition in the southeast.

The old Barrow County jail now serves as the headquarters of the Barrow County Historical Society and Museum. Visitors to the Museum will discover interesting tidbits of the county history effectively displayed. Located behind the original Barrow County Courthouse.

Eagle Tavern Museum

The Eagle Tavern is one of the earliest surviving structures in Oconee County. The Eagle Tavern was built before 1801 and possibly as early as 1794 when Watkinsville was a frontier town on the edge of Creek and Cherokee Indian Territories. It is believed by some that this site was once called Fort Edwards and served as a gathering place for early settlers who needed protection from attacks by the many Creek and Cherokee Indians who flourished in this area.

Girl Scout First Headquarters

The Girl Scout First Headquarters was built in 1848 as the carriage house to the Andrew Low House. Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts, converted the carriage house into the Girl Scout Headquarters shortly after she founded Girl Scouting in March of 1912 in Savannah, Georgia. It was willed to the Girl Scout Council of Savannah upon her death in 1927.

Heard County Historical Center and Museum

Bellevue

Furnished in period antiques and some reproductions, Bellevue provides a lovely backdrop to weddings and receptions. Tall columns grace three sides of this Greek Revival house. Original heart pine floors and beautifully carved pediments are among the treats to see. Two parlors connected by large working pocket doors are kept unfurnished to make room for meetings and parties.

Brown House Museum

Davenport House Museum

At the Davenport House visitors glimpse into the American past when the nation was new and Isaiah Davenport, a young carpenter from New England, achieved success as a builder in his adopted city. The world of early 19th century Savannah is presented through the outstanding Federal-style home Davenport built for his household. Furnished as it would have been in the 1820s, the museum is an authentic period restoration.

Through educating the public, we can better understand our differences, build on our similarities, and bridge the gaps that divide us.
